LPCA Summer Reading Assignment 2019

 

Elementary and Middle School (Rising 1st Grade- Rising 8th Grade)

We encourage Rising 1st Grade-Rising 8th Grade students to read over the summer.  Enjoy reading!

 

High School (Rising 9th Grade-Rising 12th Grade)

Below you will find book selections for each grade.  When you return, you should be prepared to discuss the selection and take an assessment within the first week of class.

 

Rising 9th Grade

 

The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom

 

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain

 

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom

 

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

 

 

Students should select ONE of the following book choices for their summer reading assignment.  Students are encouraged to annotate and use a notebook to make notes of the following for each chapter:  characters, setting, elements of plot, internal vs. external conflicts, and major themes.  All students will complete a written assessment within the first week of school. Students may use books and notes on their assessment.  Honors students will be expected to have a deeper understanding of the literature.

Rising 10th Grade

 

The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown

 

Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut

 

Lord of the Flies by William Golding

 

A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah

Read Eats, Shoots, & Leaves by Lynne Truss.

 

 

Rising 12th grade and 12th Grade AP English:

 

David Copperfield by Charles Dickens

 

Read the first 25 chapters of David Copperfield by Charles Dickens (Students will read the rest of the novel together after the start of the school year).
