Liberty Preparatory Christian Academy (Liberty Prep) was founded in 2010 in the Lake Norman area of North Carolina, approximately 25miles north of the city of Charlotte. Liberty Prep is conveniently located to anyone in the Lake Norman and surrounding areas and is one of the few private, Christian preparatory schools in the region. Liberty Prep is non-denominational, and families at the school represent a diverse range of religions associated with the Christian faith, with families from at least fifty-seven churches. The student body identifies as 84% Anglo/Caucasian and 16% African American, Native American, Asian, Bi-Racial, or Other.

Liberty Prep is a University-Model School ®, a unique model of education bringing together the best attributes of traditional public and private schools as well as independent study, integrating them into one model. Using a university-style course schedule allows students to receive professional instruction by highly qualified and degreed instructors in the central classroom on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Students complete teacher prepared lessons in the satellite (home) classroom, under a parent’s mentorship and guidance on Wednesday and Friday. The immediate goal is a quality, cost-effective, college preparatory education, set in a Christian environment. The key is professional classroom instruction partnered with caring parenting at home where a parent can be the primary influence in a child’s life, and the teacher can be the primary educator.

Liberty Prep is a comprehensive four-year private high school enrolling 79 students in grades 9–12. The school opened in the fall of 2010 and has had graduating classes since 2015. Liberty Prep is certified by the National Association of University Model Schools and is accredited by AdvancED. Liberty Prep holds membership in the College Board and the National Association of University Model Schools; and, is registered with the NCAA.
Liberty Prep and the University Model School education promote and implement a college preparatory level of academic challenge and rigor. Students learn to work in a traditional teacher led classroom, while also developing independent learning skills that will be helpful in the college/University setting.

The academic program is organized on a standard class schedule. Six credits per semester is the maximum course load; students take six 50 minute classes on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday each week, and have teacher-directed lessons that are designed to be approximately an hour per subject on Wednesday and Friday each week. Students attend class either on campus or in a satellite location five days per week.

Liberty Prep offers World History, American Literature (English), and Psychologyas an AP® course. Honors classes are offered in English 9, 10, 11, and 12 (British Lit); World History & Geography, US History, Government & Economics, Biology, Anatomy, Chemistry, Physics,Algebra II, and Pre-Calculus.

Grading and Ranking

Courses at Liberty Prep are graded on the scales listed below. The letter grade equivalents of this system are as

*AP® classes are graded on a 5.0 scale, and Honors courses are graded on a 4.3 scale, to reflect the added challenge and work associated with the AP® and honors classes. Students will still have a transcript based on a 4.0 scale but will have the opportunity through successful completion of an honors or AP® course, to achieve higher than a 4.0 GPA.

Each course instructor will define specific criteria for assessing grades and will be clearly outlined to students and parents. All class assignments will be graded and returned to the student within one week after the student has turned in the assignment.
